Flash Splash Pages

In our opinion, no website should ever load a Flash Splash Page.

For years analytics data has shown splash pages to be the kiss of death to usability. Yet here we are in 2009 and we still receive occasional requests for advice to create and/or improve splash pages.

Splash Pages are bad for SEO

It's common knowledge that all search engines spider through text links. Google is one of the very few engines that will spider through a Flash Splash Pages. Regardless of their ability to do so, in mid-2008 the Google search results started to show a "Skip Intro" link right in the search engine results pages of splash pages. (see screenshot below)

Google is going to the trouble of caching the page, collecting the link to the interior page, and then offering that link as an alternative...
