The theory of online branding is vast. For our purposes we'll keep it very narrowly focused on Online Branding via PPC Marketing.
In simple terms, online branding is a function of putting your name in front of good customers -- A lot.
To do so, we will use PPC to compete on terms where no one else would consider competing. Such as our name, url, and events we attend.
The fact is that few people will want to compete on these terms because traffic is low and the terms are cheap. For less than 10 cents per click we can appear on the page for one of these terms. Fact #2 is that very few will click on the term so we rarely ever pay the toll.
But they can't help but see our name...
Before you know it, our name is on the page 2, 3 or 4 times. It's cheap, it's easy, and it has a cumulative effect.
We may even wish to bid on our competition's name. If they're not paying attention, they may not realize we're there. Quite often, once executives see their name appear in a search, they don't do the vanity check again.
These are simplified examples that work.
