PPC vs. Organic SEO
- Why bother with SEO?
- Why waste money on PPC?
The answer is short and sweet: When possible, do both. Both have advantages and disadvantages and both should play a hand in your website traffic.
Compare & Contrast
- PPC will drive more traffic to a new site than SEO vs. good
SEO work today will pay off long term.
- Neither will let you 'set it and forget it', both require maintenance.
- PPC generally requires more funds, SEO generally requires more
effort.
- SEO spans search engines vs. PPC is highly engine specific
(Prices, ROI, search patterns).
- PPC can put you into bad neighborhoods, harming your SEO. Beware of "content matching" of smaller PPC vendors.
First Scribe Preferences
Our philosophy for Internet Marketing is based on good service with the highest possible Return On Investment (ROI). Regardless of the budget, we do our best to make the most of your investment.
First Scribe errs to the side of SEO for our corporate Internet Marketing clients but we employ supporting PPC with the majority.
Many corporate sites are a Public Relations and branding tool, lacking a direct product or point of purchase on the website. Therefore ROI is based upon conversion to a contact and/or future relationship and lends less to PPC traffic.
Websites with a point of purchase lend well to PPC traffic. Keep in mind that online shoppers are extremely price sensitive. Keep your price competitive and provide online incentives or your visitors will use you for research and move on to a cheaper price.
We believe that the click through rate and subsequent ROI of organic placement exceeds PPC. In our experience, SEO efforts have attained measurably larger ROI.
To further the point we have a PPC traffic case study.
