Our point here couldn't be more simple but it's worth repeating. Whatever it is you plan to sell - make it obvious on the home page.
A feature area lifts your main products & services to a higher level than all the other content on the site. Current visitors may take the time to click on your "Services" button and then read the page to learn about your wares...
Or they may hit the Back button.
Don't make them think
Steven Krug, author of Don't Make Me Think has a really strong point - if a visitor has to think about where to go next, they will go back.
You only have a few valuable seconds to provide each visitor with what they are looking for. They tend to skim content and look for the next item to click. Give them something big to click.
